Cyprus, the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, Goddess of love and beauty, has always been an island of great diversity at the crossroad of three continents where the west meets the east. Ten thousand years of history, have left the island with a rich cultural heritage and monuments from all eras: prehistoric settlements, ancient Greek and Roman cities, Byzantine monasteries, Gothic Churches and Venetian forts. Following the departure of the British, Cyprus became an independent parliamentary democracy in 1960. In 2004 the island became a full member of the European Union.
With its marvelous Mediterranean climate and an average of 330 days of sunshine per year, a very high living standard and a low crime rate, Cyprus with its beaches and forested mountains is an ideal place to enjoy outdoor life and sports all year round.
Today the island offers just about everything including excellent telecommunications, advanced banking and professional services, contemporary health facilities and high standard schools, colleges and universities where teaching is in English. To these one can add the busy shopping malls, the many excellent restaurants, vibrant nigh clubs, golf courses, marinas and a lot more. The predominant language is Greek but English is widely spoken.
